Bloggers Unite: Silence Isn't Golden

Darfur, Sudan.
Status: Conflict Ongoing.

These words are very frightening to anyone reading it. To us, who haven't experienced real conflict in our countries, we cannot comprehend the magnitude of this problem. An inquiry by the UN Secretary-General's Commission reported that there have already been 1.6 million internally displaced people as a result of the ongoing conflict. Refugees have entered other countries just to escape the war.
With war, we would always expect numerous deaths, not only to the militia but to the civilians as well. In 2004, the WHO (World Health Organization) estimated that there have been 50,000 deaths in Darfur since the beginning of the conflict. Most of the deaths were due to starvation. To us, these are merely numbers but when really think about it's impact to humanity and to the world, it has astounding implications.
What are we doing about this? A number of organizations have been rallying for a cause and demanding that we take action. Many of these citizens have been silenced - killed - because they are fighting for their rights. Many have gone hungry because war destroys not only people's homes but their way of living. Many people; men, women and children, have gone hungry because they no longer plant crops or grow their own food. The current conflict prevents that. Fear have taken over and they are running. It is us who can voice out their plight to the world. We must speak up. We must be their voice. We must be heard.
