Christmas Day Plans

We don’t really have exciting plans for this Christmas though. I guess you could say that we are trying to avoid being reminded that we are in another country where they spend Christmas a bit differently than we are used to.

To keep ourselves amused on Christmas Day, we checked out new movies coming out to the big screen. We are planning to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with Brad Pitt. Movie Reviews have stated that it is an amazing film to see. With critics raving about Pitt’s performance, it should be good. We’ll just wait and see then.

Another movie that will be released tomorrow is The Spirit. I’ve been seeing a lot of trailers for this movie since June and I am curious about it. I know I’d better go and check out Action Movie Reviews for this one and I think I’ll do that in a few minutes.

We don’t really know what else we are going to be doing though. We are a bit apprehensive when it comes to going to other places because of the crazy weather we are having. This weeks forecast is rain and rain and rain so it would be best to stay indoors…for now.

Rewind

The 1980s marked a significant decade in the movie industry. It was during this time that blockbuster films popped up almost every year. From sci-fi to horror to action and adventure to wars and drama, the 80s had them all.
I could never forget Drew Barrymore’s cute screams in E. T. The Extraterrestrial and E. T.’s sad refrain "E. T., phone home.” It was one of the best movies that I saw when I was a kid. Back to the Future with Michael J. Fox was also a fave, especially with the mad scientist played by Christopher Lloyd! Being a movie and a cartoon fan, I drooled over the crazy, but lovable Roger Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? The sci-fi imagining of George Lucas in The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi hooked me to the Star Wars Saga that even today, still entertains me. Ah, what a decade. It brought wonderful movies to all of us.
Why am I blabbing about 1980s films? It’s because WarGames starring Matthew Broderick, is having its 25th Anniversary and is showing for one night only on July 24, 2008 in selected theaters. This movie is a 1983 classic about computers and hacking. Although I only saw a part of this movie on Cable T.V., I would want to see it back on the big screen again. Not only will they be featuring never-before-seen interviews from cast and crew so this is one gig that you wouldn’t want to miss!

Movies: Indiana Jones & the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Indiana Jones mania has come again! I just finished watching on Cable T.V. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. I didn't realize that Marion Ravenwood was a character in this film! Since it has been quite a while since I saw Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, I didn't connect the character Marion Ravenwood to the character Marion Ravenwood in the new Indiana Jones film that I saw yesterday!

Even though this movie was made back in the early 80's, it still captured my interest. I realized that this is one of the films that are sure to survive the test of time.

Movies: Indiana Jones & the Temple of the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a 2008 adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg, from a story co-written by executive producer George Lucas. Set in 1957, the fourth film in the Indiana Jones film series pits an older Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) against agents of the Soviet Union, led by Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett), in the search for a crystal skull. Indy is aided by his former lover Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), the greaser "Mutt" Williams (Shia LaBeouf), and fellow adventurer Mac (Ray Winstone).

I saw the movie yesterday at the Century Theaters near our apartment. It was a typical Indiana Jones film and it was also a typical Steven Spielberg film. Of course, I won't give spoilers in this post. It would be unfair for those who haven't seen it and would want to see the movie in the future.

I have always been fascinated about archeology, just like Never Dainty. In fact, I still love watching archeology series on the Discovery Channel and the National Geographic Channel. To add to that, I have also been fascinated about all the old temples, old civilizations and the like and would watch anything related to this genre. Hmm, no wonder Never Dainty and me rub together smoothly like two peas in a pod! Ehemmm...

Moving on. I will admit, however, that I slept a good 20 minutes in the middle of the movie! It wasn't because the film was boring! Ha! It seems that jet lag has been catching up to me! Anyway, my mom said that I didn't miss much. Well, I didn't miss the snake....hehehehe

The first time the hero = Indiana Jones = Harrison Ford, was shown pretty much had me at the edge of my seat. I was looking forward to seeing him with the goods: fedora, leather jacket, and the bull whip. And it was not a disappointment. Although Mr. Ford showed signs of aging (yeah it is very apparent that he is getting older), that didn't stop him from acting exceptionally! He was still the old Indy from his previous Indiana Jones films. I also loved the fact that he mentioned another favorite actor Sean Connery which played his father, Henry Jones, Sr. in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Speaking of which, I want to go visit Petra!).
This movie is action packed, full of laughs, full of surprises and yes, it is apparent that Steven Spielberg AND George Lucas were behind it. You will know what I'm talking about when you see it!
