Labels and OCD, Get Organized

Monday, September 8, 2008

When I was still in high school, I loved labels. I loved to label everything from my school books to notebooks, to pens and pocket books. It seemed that I was always stamping my signature everywhere (even in the arm chairs and walls) and I admit, I was a vandal.

When I reached college, I started being OCD. Come to think of it, I started being OCD when I was still in grade school! I used to line my books and notebooks in order from the biggest to the smallest in my bag and in my desk. I wasn’t like Monk, though but I was close!

Anyway, when I was in nursing school, I started to receive a lot of junk (yes I call them junk) handouts from our instructors and some handouts from my classmates. Being an OCD that I am, I started stacking them and placing them in file folders with labels on them just so they wouldn’t get lost in the mess. It served me well for a few months until I started receiving more and more useless handouts! I just had to dump some of them in the trash just so I wouldn’t accumulate such junk in my room.

Today, however, the habit of labeling stuff still doesn’t escape me. I sill love to put things in order and well, I am messy even when I am OCD in other aspects so that doesn’t entirely make me super OCD (if that makes sense). One thing that I should have had was the DYMO label maker. You see, it is so easy to make labels out of this device that I cannot believe that I didn’t have one of these things back in the day. It’s portable, and very easy to use and it is ideal for labeling things like file folders, CDs, DVDs, books, notebooks, jars and other stuff around the house that needs labels.

Consolidate Debts

With an increase in gas prices, basic commodities have followed suit and have increased as well. This is especially hard in countries with lower economies than in the United States. Sometimes, I still can’t comprehend why these people keep on complaining when in fact, they have got it good. I mean, most people can afford to buy food and other basic commodities while in other countries, basic commodity prices are sky high.

I have spent time here in the US and I have realized that a lot of people are deeply in dept. I guess it can be attributed to credit cards. You see, people get tempted to spend more than they earn because they can simply flash their plastic cards and get the items they want without ever spending cold hard cash. This is a big mistake because when the bills come, they still have to pay them. Sure, there are a lot of sales and bargains everywhere, but when these things pile up, they can amount to a lot of money.

Only a few people can spare money for savings. Some even work from paycheck to paycheck and that is not good at all. When this happens, spending money on entertainment and other frivolous things should become second but unfortunately, this is not the case.

Because of the mounting bills, some people opt to consolidate their debts. I didn’t really understand what consolidate debt means but when I surfed over to Bills.com, they gave me a full explanation of this term.

Consolidating your debt means that you pay off all your debts and make one loan so that you will only be paying one loan as a whole. Sometimes, these loans have lower interest rates than most credit cards so this can work for you as well.

However, always relying on debt consolidation will never solve your problems. What you need to do is save up some money and never touch it until an emergency comes along. With good health care insurance coverage, I suspect touching your stash will be safe for a long time.

Sweltering Heat

Saturday, August 30, 2008

It’s almost the end of summer in my part of the world and it’s still steaming hot! I don’t the think it has rained in ages, well since I arrived last June, anyway. I know I’m pretty much ranting about something that I cannot change but I can control the heat, though.

We have been using the ac pretty much every time we drive these days and I must say a working ac compressor is definitely important. Even with the rising cost of gas prices, we still cannot sacrifice our comfort; it’s just sweltering outside!

For your Honda ac compressor and auto ac parts needs, check out http://www.discountacparts.com for a full selection of auto parts for all car models.

123s of Saving Money

Thursday, July 17, 2008

Many people have probably been finding ways to save money. It seems like every where we look; prices seem to be sky rocketing like crazy. To the filthy rich, these may be paltry problems that they can simply solve with money, but for us middle class citizens, money is a necessary evil that we must grab at all costs.
There are a lot of ways to ensure that we can save money to ensure that we have some stashed away for a rainy day.
  1. Open a savings account. Gone are the days that we put pennies in the piggy bank. I know I frequently sneak some money out of my supposed savings in the piggy bank! As much as possible, try not to dip into your savings account for entertainment stuff, doing so would defeat the purpose of getting the account in the first place.
  2. Maintain at least one credit card and at most two. With the introduction of the credit card, we feel like we have a lot of money; in a sense that we don’t actually use money when we shop which tricks our brain that we aren’t using money at all. In the end, we spend more than we can afford to pay. By keeping credit cards to a minimum, you limit your spending, thereby decreasing your monthly credit card payments.
  3. Take the bus or the train to work. I know public transportation is a pain but it is necessary if you want to save money. With gas prices sky rocketing every few weeks, driving around seems to eat out the bulk of our cash. Plus, you can get a monthly bus/train pass for a minimal amount so it’s not going to be a big expenditure on your part.
  4. Check out the weekly ads. Yep, scrounging around the ads section will help you save money for food and other household necessities.
  5. Limit your shopping. It is just too tempting for words not to buy an article at the regular prize! Dressing up like celebrities seems to boost up our egos but it doesn’t help us much in the financial department. By checking out the clearance section, you can grab gorgeous outfits at a fraction of the cost thereby giving you debt relief.
  6. Debt consolidation is also a last resort. If bills seem to be pilling up at an alarming rate, consolidating your debt may be an option because you may be able to pay off your other debts and secure a lower interest rate or a fixed interest rate. This may not be a good practice, however but if you are really desperate, this can be an option.
  7. If you are in debt, don’t hesitate to ask for help, debt help, if you will. Often, we tend to keep our money problems a secret because it is embarrassing. But if you tap the right people and ask for advice, you may become debt free!
