Nonsense. No Sense?

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

I've been pretty down in the dumps lately and if you notice, pretty low in postie outputs, too. I still don't know why writer's block has been plaguing me these days but it seems that it already is! This phenomenon seems to be happening quite frequently these days and I am still puzzled about why this thing is happening.
I think this started when I stopped composing my dark, and rather angst ridden poems. Yeah, I was this sort-of EMO girl dressed in black (minus the eyeliner, of course) way back in high school and it puzzles me how I became this bubbly? sun-shiny female that I am today. Back to poetry; it sickens me to realize that it has been almost 10 years since I last took pen and paper and composed dark, hate/love driven poems. Hmm, I guess that comes with the territory of being young.
I suppose I can resurrect my poetry and showcase them one of these days. But then, I would have to manually scrounge around the boxes and find them myself. In this case, the search button will be no help at all.
Over the past week, a few problems have been resurfacing here and there; popping out of the ground like daisies. The most pressing problems have been taken cared of and I heave a sigh of relief that it went without a hitch. However, another pressing problem as put me into a dither. I am still fuming stark-raving mad at my college for being so pig headed not to realize that they made a mistake. Like, hello?! Do they expect me to write an incident report when I didn't do anything that merited that said report? Hey Mrs. insert name of teacher here, try reading the college policy and understand it. I did not violate any policies. Moreover, if I did (which I absolutely did not), the policy only stated that I will be "accountable for any questions regarding my records." The policy never stated that I would be punished and declared immoral because I didn't inform you, people! Plus, insinuating that what I did was immoral was uncalled for. Just because you are in power doesn't mean that you are always right!
Before you say I am immoral, please check the mirror and see who is immoral! Take that, Mrs. insert name of f-ing teacher here!

Weekly Fest #5: First Day School Blues

Thursday, June 26, 2008

It's been a long time since I thought about my first day in school. Usually, people think that first day school blues happen only when you're in grade school or when your baby starts preschool for the very first time. No, I'm not going to talk about my first day in grade school. I know what I was back then: a shy, gangly little girl, always by herself, looking for her name posted outside the door of her classroom for sectioning, and staying inside until the bell rings for the first day Flag Ceremony.
I am going to talk about the first day I went back to school for my freaking enrollment in college after I stopped schooling for a year because I was in the US. Whew, that was a pretty long sentence! Anyway, there I was a week early for enrollment because I had to see the Admissions chairperson so that I can be officially re-admitted to the college. So, I found her at the WBT (that's our college's mini library) handing her students their exam results. When she was free, I approached her and she looked at me, all evil like, and snapped at me. Of course, I didn't snap back at her even though I would have loved to give her a piece of my mind. I told her that I was supposed to see her per instruction from the Dean's office because I have to be re-admitted so that I would become officially a student again. She told me to wait, and wait and wait, and wait, and...you get the message. Until finally, I approached her again and asked her when she would be available. She snapped at me again and told me to come back on the enrollment week saying that I was too early for the enrollment. Fine. I came back the next week and boy was I in for a surprise!
There was a long queue from her office up to the Dean's office (you can just imagine that). S*#@t! Unfortunately, I didn't have a choice and I stayed in line. Noon came and went and 5 PM was fast approaching and the freaking line didn't even budge! I found out that she was having a meeting with the Dean! Freaking witch! Why didn't they tell us to come back the next day if she was indeed busy and wouldn't have time to entertain us? Everyone in line was grumbling, what's worse, some where even in line at 6 AM!
The next day, I came back bright and early at 6 AM and there was already a freaking line (I can just imagine how early they woke up)! Naturally, the line didn't budge again and we were turned away...again! No one was seeing the witch, it seemed. A person who lined up before me was cursing to high hell because she wasn't from our city and she was just staying at a hotel. Plus, she didn't bring that many clothes with her since she thought that she would be staying for only 3 days! No such luck, lady! She ended up staying until the next week, by the way (I wonder what she did for clothes...).
Needless to say, I had my mom call some "important people" in our university and finally I was enrolled by Thursday. THURSDAY?! Can you believe it? When I was taking up Medical Technology in that same university, I got enrolled in just half a day and this includes getting our printout and getting stamped "enrolled" by the Registrars Office! This college is pretty inept when it comes to enrollment. It seems that they didn't have a system! I still hear horror stories like this one up to this day. *sigh* When will they ever learn?

Rants: Instructor Evaluation

Thursday, June 5, 2008

In my school, all our instructors get to be evaluated at least once a year or if you are in college, once every semester. I have been evaluating a lot of teachers since elementary school.
When I was in elementary however, evaluation questions like: "What do you like least about the teacher?" usually go unanswered. This can be attributed to the fact that as kids, we fear our teachers. It's the reprimand and subjective treatment when it comes to grades that we fear. It's as if they are all powerful beings that judge us if we pass or fail in their subject.
As I got older, I realized that this is not the case. Teachers are not all powerful beings and are not perfect all the time. Not everything that comes from their mouths are necessarily the truth or are the correct facts. Luckily, I just met a handful of teachers/instructors who are better off not teaching their subject.
When evaluation time rolls around, which is usually at the end of the semester or at the end of the year, some students view it as a way to get back at their instructors. I have also met quite a number of students who vent out their frustrations during evaluation. Even if some of the instructors deserve this form of revenge, I still frown upon this dreadful act.
Still, I am not a person who would sweeten up an instructor evaluation just because I don't like to use it as a form of revenge. No. But I do make it a point to be as unfailingly honest as I can when I rate these instructors. What I do write, however, is the truth. For example: if the instructor comes to class late all the time, then that will be reflected in the evaluation, and so forth. This list is just too long to elaborate. The evaluation will then be reviewed by the evaluations committee and the printed results will be given to the instructor. At this point, the instructor would know how well he/she fared and what the students like best and least about him/her.
*****
I just heard a juicy bit of gossip early this morning. It seems that one of my classmates was accused of being the one to write really "nasty" things about a certain instructor. My classmate told me that the instructor specifically said that name was responsible for 98% of the criticisms because name seemed to be blunt and the only person in our class who would dare to write such things. Like, hello! I admit, I did write a few things that were TRUE about her. Of course, it hurt, but that was the truth. Should I rate someone unfairly so as not to hurt that person's feelings? Definitely not! The instructor being late most of the time? Coming to class unprepared? Taking over your work and not teaching you the correct way of doing it. Not giving you additional information regarding the subject. Those were the things that I wrote.
Admittedly, I did write a few things regarding what I like least about the subject and not the instructor. The subject I am talking about does need major work and overhauling because I feel that the subject still needed more revisions to accommodate the increasing number of students.
The crux of the matter is, the instructor was bawling at name because of what was written. The instructor also said that name was the only person who could write such a thing because of the way it was written, the English, and what not. Should I be insulted? Does the instructor deem my writing not up to par as name's? For that matter, it is not only I but a couple of other classmates that are pretty good with English. Ahhh! The rants still come. I am pretty sure if the instructor read this entry all hands will be pointing to me a hundred percent!
We do get evaluated by our instructors. We do have efficiency ratings. They also grade us honestly? Hell no! I'll punch myself when I find an instructor who is 100% unbiased? Even the good ones do have their favorites and usually, I'm not one of them. I'm just, too outspoken. Which suits me just fine as I really loathe those who are really buddies with the instructors. When we do get our grades, you don't see us bawling all over campus or staying in one corner nursing our hurt feelings. Name was rated unfairly by this instructor, too. This must be why the instructor was bawling in front of name. Guilt. That's what's eating that instructor.

Rants: On Nursing Policies

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

I admit that I am a certified deviant. I think I have already been branded as someone who doesn't seem to follow rules and policies and still, I get away with it...just barely. I do not recommend this habit, however but since I have started to be with the College of Nursing in my school I seem to be running into a few troubles regarding school policies. I am not saying that I intentionally go out of my way to get into trouble but trouble seems to be in a habit of finding me.
Here are a few of my faux pas regarding our school's policies:
  1. Dress Code: Outside of the RLE areas, all my school here students regardless of level are encouraged to use the my school here uniform daily while attending lectures, leclab or skills lab activities. A standard my school here uniform includes my school here T-shirt, official school ID, dark colored pants, and an appropriate footwear. After the third reminder for non-compliance, the student shall write an explanation for ones behavior and to see the Dean of my school here. With the new "wearing of slippers" trend these days, we seem to be at a disadvantage! We cannot wear any footwear relating to rubber no matter how expensive it may be e.g. Havaianas Slippers. Incidentally, if you wear Havaianas High Slippers (that's the two-three inch wedge slippers) no instructor will reprimand you even if it is still rubber slippers. Hmm...I wonder.... Of course, any sandals visually resembling rubber slippers will automatically be called slippers and your attention will be called. As there are flat sandals that look like flip flops, I sometimes get away with it. Being the deviant that I am, I refuse to wear the my school here T-shirt. Instead, I wear plain whites which is allowed, by the way. When I also say T-shirt, that means any shirt with sleeves - No sleeveless, and spaghetti tops allowed; no shorts, or short skirts allowed, too. I draw the line when it comes to shorts, though but a few years ago, I did go to school in shorts, slippers, and a spaghetti top. That was before I transferred to the new college and I also had our instructor's blessing since it was summer and he was a pretty carefree teacher. He did say that he will allow us to wear them since he will be wearing shorts and slippers since it was summer. Nice! Well, he doesn't belong to our college and he taught Literature over at the English Department so he doesn't really count. Of course, we have some CI's who blatantly wear sleeveless blouses during lectures until recently. Perhaps their attention had already been called.
  2. Change of Status: Any student who plans to change status within the school year must inform the Dean. Any student who gets married within the semester must present a marriage certificate to the Dean right after marriage (upon return if student has filed a Leave of Absence). Failure to inform the Dean's office means full accountability as regards to questions related to records. Most of you might not know it but I got married last March right after graduation. I emphasize on the after. Being the deviant that I am, I didn't inform the college as I was not also going to change my records because it would be a pain when it comes to the filling and such since I got married after receiving my college diploma. However, that is frowned upon in our college. The coordinator told me (not quoted) that it is not the issue of changing the records, it is about what people think. The thing is, you are already living with this man and someone who doesn't know might see you and think impure thoughts regarding the matter since they didn't know that you got married. I should have answered her this way: "Hell yeah! If that person didn't know I got married, that means he/she is not an important person in my life therefore doesn't deserve the information about my marriage. And if that is the case, then I have been thinking a lot of impure thoughts regarding people who are indeed married because they haven't told me that they were married. And besides, I got married after graduation, not within the semester." Well I didn't say that but I was thinking it. I just swallowed my pride and submitted a letter of explanation why I didn't inform them. This was also posted, to my utter amazement, at the doorway of the classroom where the instructors were doing their advising for the enrollment. Ha! And yesterday I was wearing my jean skirt! At least my attention wasn't called when I was in college premises. I just wasn't entertained. I found a guinea pig who did all the work for me, though! Of course, I have to make spaghetti for her, but she's getting all my papers signed so no biggie, I can still cook for her.

I HATE NURSING RESEARCH 1 & 2

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Pwede! dili gyud pwede ug after intrams na? nag cramming na ming tanan! wala pud ni sila'y klaro pud oi! The orientation should have been done weeks before not this afternoon! And to think, defense would be on monday and we ARE the LUCKIEST one's to be the first! PLUS, we weren't the one's who picked out our number for the order of presentation! What's more, it was done while we were not present at all and we were just told last week that we would be the first on November 19! How unfair can you get?!
If anyone connected to SUCN will read this I have no fear because what I say is absolutely correct. As students, they should have thought that it would be impossible for us to be prepared in such a short ammount of time when we also didn't know what to expect during the defense! They should also consider that NURSING is not OUR LIFE! We have prior engagements and other things to do other than NURSING and I really hate the fact that some teachers just send us text messages to inform us that they would be meeting us ASAP or there would be changes in schedule. That is so unprofessional! Sure, this is the dawn of the technology pero dili pud dagway textan ka na inyong CI nga see you at 8am nya 7:30am na?! Plus dili pa gud maabot dayon ang chain text! How unprofessional can you get! I have nothing agaisnt texting students pero please lang! Ayaw pud lamang ug text ug kanang hapit na pud mag meet...mga at lest 5 hours before the time unta...or text the day before or the night, for that matter.

UNFAIR!!!

Handle, Assist, Initial Care

Sunday, November 4, 2007

I just had my completion duty at NOPH LR-DR last November 1-2 (11pm-7am), and last November 3-4 (5pm-7am). I just have to say that I haven't seen any infants in one place at the same time! Arrgghh!! There were really a lot of babies born (especially on the 3rd and 4th of November) and I didn't even have time to rest or SLEEP!
Now, it's back to reality and time to o back to school! Argghh! I hate, hate, HATE nursing...no wonder I haven't been enrolled yet...
So, I'm off to school and get myself officially enrolled.

In the Sky

Friday, October 26, 2007

Yes! I passed! I passed NCM 104! Inspired? Hah! I wish! It was just so fortunate that I did pass...I never expected to pass Research I but, here I am! A few months na lang and I'll be graduating...hopefully...and then our wedding na pud!

Initial plans have already been going underway but nothing is final yet...we're still building up our budget and contacting people to find out the best deals in cake, invites, etc...

Based on what Boss had to say, it would be more fun, not to mention cheaper, if we make the invites ourselves! I think it's a good idea! We're already choosing between two possible invites and are already starting to make samples of each to see which one is more unique. I am still on the look out for new ideas, though...

It's been awhile! Ha! Just because my damned broadband wasn't working! Globelines!!! Arrrgghhh! Whenever there's a blasted wind there is bound to be NO SIGNAL whatsoever! And to top it off, things had been happening around me that I just counldn't find time to blah blah blah about what has been happening to my life....

The Lowdown on my Life - Resently it's been CrAzY!
1. Escape from Alcatraz
I didn't manage to escape or sneak out during the Acquaintance party. They said I had to be picked up by my parents. MY PARENTS?! For heaven's sake! I'm 23 and I don't need blasted parents to pick me up! To top off that night, it was raining like crazy! Heck! During the party, the lights went out! Woohoo! Like duh! Who knew! Summed up, it was the worst night of my life!

2. Sabbath, Bloody Bloody Sabbath
For the first time in my life, I was able to witness a birth through cesarean section. It was my first time to see an actual major operation at the NOPH Operating Room last July 3. Nice! What entranced me were the tissues! Adipose tissues anyone? It's just like real pork meat....only it's human meat! Errrmmm..... blah blah blah

3. Baby's Day Out
It's babby Frankie's Christening! Yay! Nakakita na gyud ko sa bata oi! And si Sophie?! Ha! Bugay kaayo! hehehe I'm sure liwat kaayo ni Mommy Lurchie!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Saturday, June 30, 2007

No. This post is definitely not about the movie starring Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey. Heck, I haven't even seen it yet, so why blog about it? Well....it seems that I have taken into making my titles based on movie and/or titles of songs and the like...

Anywho, I'm just flat out MAD at this gadawful weather we're having! It's been raining since the AM and I have a party to attend. Although, I'd rather not show up but I already have a lot of missed hours and I know this event would be credited to our RLE time (RLE=Related Learning Experience=need for me to graduate Nursing). Since I already have a few more months (holds breath) left, I have to be really, really good and attend activities where my life depend on...

Whew! So much for playing hooky! I wish I could, though. I have to see if I can still blend in (in my size? ha!) and try to escape the security's notice.

Catcha later....

Busy. Busy. Busy. Bee

Saturday, March 3, 2007

Whew! It has been a busy week for me! First, I had to juggle two major classes with exams for two days straight plus a long exam and a quiz just this afternoon! And I should not forget that I am still learning how to make my own site using html (and this is pretty confusing for me since I have no background in webdesign). I've tried a few things though but I still can't get the part where the posts are supposed to appear right. Oh well, I have been using trial and error so hopefully they will work this time. In spite of my really, really busy week (hehehehe I've slept a lot too, so don't forget that), I found time to update parts of all my blogs.

  1. I've updated My OTH and added a new blog. I've also watched both Episodes 14 & 15 but I haven't gotten around to making my comments and what not about it.
  2. I've also updated the links in my Heroes blog.
  3. I did write this entry in this blog so I guess this is update too.
